The Right Time

Something happened in June ......

for the first time ever:((

And I was NOT happy

And neither was Mitchell....

A notice came home from school mid June asking parents to check their kids hair for lice ..... we get those notices you know 1/2 a dozen times a year and I check and M never has lice and I am always relieved because his hair is quite long for a boy and I have always been dreading it

Well after 6.5 years of school he got his first case of lice !!!!!!!!!!! YAHHHHHH!!

So it was off to the chemist (after ringing up Anne to find out what brand to use) to get the lice stuff

Well 2 hours and a few tears later we finished the treatment - it took ages to comb that stuff through M's long curly hair - I know it's not long compared to girls hair but it is the combination of the length with the curls and that stuff just knots up let me tell u!!  Anne advised us to treat again within 3 days not 7 and again after another 4 days so that he had 3 treatments in 7 days.

So that would be it you'd think ......

not so lucky...... about 3 weeks later he got it again and about 10 weeks after that he got it again - when he got for the 3rd time (1st week of the Sept/Oct school holidays) that was it - I told him he had to have his hair cut as someone was obviously giving it to him and it was his long hair that they were gleefully "jumping" onto when his long hair was coming into contact with someone elses hair!!  They work quite closely together in P-school and also wrestle hug amongst the boys lolol.  He was NOT happy about that - he was quite proud of his long hair but I'd had enough - I know he will most likely still get it again but it wont take 2 hours to comb thru now that it's much shorter!!!!

So not a nice thing to blog about but I wanted to have a record of it coz I'm just weird lolol

Another High Jump!!

Just a quick post again tonight as I have small group tonight

The title of the post sounds like something major has been achieved or is to be acheived but it's actually just a very cute saying from Skyler today lol

I was driving from his place to Playgroup and we have to go over a series of speed humps amd I was saying "Here comes another speed hump - up......down" a few times

..............When we had finished driving over the speed humps and were driving along Skyler asked "We go another HIGH JUMP?????"

HOW CUTE!!

June - Part 1

Well most of June was Kinder, Kinder and more Kinder except for when I got sick with Gastro :(  And of course being Gastro Mitchell and Gary got it 2 days later (within 15 minutes of each other!!!!!!!!!!!1) What a fun night that was - NOT!!  M threw up every 30 mins or so from 10.30pm - 6am - seriously - it was the worst case of Gastro he has ever had!!  At about 3am I toyed with ringing the nurse-on -all or a Dr but he was able to still drink bit and wasnt delarious or anything so I didnt in the end....... anyway consequently I couldnt work Monday at Kinder (having had NO sleep at all - I lay on a mattress in M's room - he only got about 15 mins before 6am, and also obviously M wasnt able to go to school or Gary to work) What a cheerful household we were ..... lol

Garys' friend Gavin was visiting Melbourne in early June so we caught up with him over at Rod and Janine's.  That night we borrowed the video of Gary's band that he was in with his brothers and Gavin and another couple of friends - it was too late to watch that night - so we watched it the next morning - have a look at Mitchell's face ....

He thought it was so funny especially when Gary got down on the road and whizzed around on his backside .... he asked Gary "How did they get you to do THAT Daddy?  How much did they pay you ?????" lolol

Here's the LO I made of it - the song they were doing on the home made video was called Hot Stuff

We did the bubble experiments in mid June which I have blogged about before. That was lots of fun and we should do more experiments form that book!!

 
The Friday after the Queens Birthday weekend was the only curriculum day for the whole year and I had said we would drill holes in the bottle tops for Jacquie so of course Mitchell wanted to help lolol

Well that's the first half of June in a nut shell - more tomorrow!!

Amazing how things work better when .....

About 5 years ago my sister, neice and I all bought a Dyson Vaccuum each at a very reduced price as we were buying 3 of them. 

It has worked wonderfully over the years but you know over the past 2 years I have had to detangle the silver head quite a few times coz it just stops spinning and has been progressively spinning slower.

So I detangled it again last week and the head spun for all of about 5 minutes and stopped again.

Agghhhh!!  Me thunk it was time it had a service but thought I would look up troubleshooting online, just to see if there was anything I could do to fix it myself to save taking it in for a service

WELL.....

Helps if you read the instruction book doesnt it

Apparently there's a filter in there that needs cleaning every 3-6 months ..... did I mention I have had the vaccuum 5 YEARS!!  lolol And I have NEVER cleaned this filter ..... Nothing like being better late than never lol

So I looked at the mini pic online to find where this filter was and took it out and ran it under the tap like it said and proceeded to try to take the spongy part out like it said .......weird I cant get it out - must be stuck in there after 5 years methinks

Keep trying then decide to have another look at the pic ..... the thing I have got looks like the thing in the pic  right???? (see above link)  - so I keep trying to pull it apart but it wont budge

All I seemed to achieve was pulling the fluff!

ooooops - I took my round thing from a diff part of the machine ..... so I find the right part and go thru the above steps again and oh my goodness - you should have seen the dust/dirt coming out of it (funny that!!!!!)

 

This was exactly the same shape as theother one - just a diff colour and had the soft thing in it that I could pull out!! lol

This was a brown/grey colour before I cleaned it!!

 
So them I dry all 3 things in front of the heater like it says for about 2 days rather than the 12 hours as the wrong thing looked like it would need longer (and it was cold enough to use the heater back then believe it or not!!)

And guess what - I put it back together ...........................and it is making the weirdest noise ever .... probably from me trying to pull that wrong bit apart BUT............ the head spins so fast the whole tube including the handle I hold onto vibrates like nothing on earth!!!!  Will keep an eye on the other piece and the noise and investigate replacing it if I need to but the head is working fine !!!!!!!

So we have a happy (if somewhat noisy) vaccuum again

No time to do a long post so........

just wanted to record that I heard on the radio tonight that there are 3 bushfires already (plus 1 other burning off blaze that is withinn control)  :((((((((((((((

It's only November and its HOT!! SO hot I have to wear a hat and sunglasses to hang out the washing!!

Hope it's just an early short heatwave that will disappear and the cooler weather comes back again for a while - sleeping is ALREADY an issue :(

Praying that the bushfires are under control by tomorrow!!

The hills are alive with the sound of .........

no actually it was the sound of music sing a long

which was fantastic

It was my birthday during May so my friend and I decided we would shout ourselves to this sing a long a event.  http://www.singalonga.net/australasia/index.html

It was a fantastic night altho both Anne and I had our issues lol - It was at the Arts Centre Hamer Hall - She couldnt cope with how steep the seats were and the steps down to them and I felt a bit claustrophobic just being in a theatre with hundreds (maybe thousands) of other people.  I had to hold Anne's hand very tightly to lead her down to the seats - I coped with that bit fine and then I had to just imagine there was only a few people nearby!! Thankfully that even tho we were late booking we got aisle seats which ok made it a very sharp angle to the screen but meant that we were not stuck in the middle of a row which neither of us would have coped with!!! lol A great pair we are!! lol

So anyway it starts off with a Fashion Parade where people have dressed up as various characters from the film.  Anne and I didnt do that lol but here's some pics and you'll see from the angle of the pics how high we were and the angle we were at (yes we booked tickets quite late lol)

There were all sorts of characters from Nuns to the Pope to the Bride Maria to the bowing lady in the contest towards the end of the film to the kids in their curtain clothes to the HILLS - I kid you not - 2 people dressed up as the HILLS lol and they WON!!

After that we all had a little bag of goodies to be used through the film which was hillarious - it really was a lot of fun - we had cards that had words on them to prompt us in what to sing or do at certain time, we had a piece of curtain material to flap at Maria to yell out "The curtains, the curtains, we had some eidelwiess (flower) to wave during that song, we had to boo the Nazi's and hiss the Baroness, we had an invitation "to the ball, to the ball!!" etc etc etc

And most of all there were subtitles of all the words of all the songs - we just had a  fantastic time!!

I took a few photos with my phone and Mitchell's camera (no flash!!) until the batteriers ran out so then I was using my mobile phone again until an Usher told me that the light from my phone was disturbing other people -whoops!! lol

So we sang and hissed and waved cards etc etc and it really was so much fun!!!!!!!!!

 
Yeh our angle wasnt the best but we still loved it and we both want to go again but might leave it a year or 2 before going back as it wasnt cheap!!

 
And next time we will book it as SOON as we hear it is on so we get much better seats!! lol   

Anne and I have decided we are going to watch SOM on New Years Eve and give our families a taste of what it was like - rotfl!!!

May part 2 !!

Still keeping up - yey!!

Mitchell's school camp was in May so that mean another Garb Bag Ball costume - I will do a separate blog entry about all the Garb Bag Ball costumes over the past 4 years soon but for now will just share the outfit for this year's camp ball

This is made from yellow garb bags, brown felt and laminated insignias which were scanned in off his real top and then printed out, laminated and sticky taped on! lol

Kinder went along as usual with me doing the 2 extra sessions per week and the 3yo's having a visit from Huggles the bear and the 4yo's having a visit from Wild Action (Reptiles)

I tried taking some more sillohouette photos for I heart faces contest that was coming up that month..... hmmmm

Problem was that in May you dont get really pretty sunsets - this is M standing on the roof of the bottom shed!!

And yep Jude was right!!  The Christmas pictures were still up on the windows at easter time!!  This photo was taken on 27th May before I finally cleaned them off!! lolol The rain had washed the bottom of the bottom pic off for me already lol. 

May was also the month in which we had to make the decision about High School for Mitchell!! You can read about that here

Oh yes how could I forget!!!  May was also the month we went to the Sound of Music Sing-along-a in the city - it was WONDERFUL and I will do a separate post about THAT too!! http://www.singalonga.net/australasia/index.html

May - Part 1

Ok so only 6 months behind now lolol

In May we started painting the loungeroom - now we decided we didnt want to have to move EVERYTHING out of the loungeroom - that would be a BIG job so we decided to do it in 2 halves.....

So we painted from the heater end of the room to the archway (plus that little bit extra out the side to paint over the filling of the HUGE crack there)

Same end of the room looking the other way..... this was the easy half really as the other end of the room had 2 big walls and the wall behind where the cd/dvd stand was.  After painting we completely rearranged the room as well.  So anyway ........ this stayed like this for about 3 weeks lolol!!!!!

I had my usual babysitting of Malachie and Skyler until mid May when I was then doing my friends Kinder sessions as she had gone overseas for 7 weeks - so for 6 weeks I was working 4 days a week - very tiring and all that extra exposure to kiddy germs (certain kids in particular!!) meant we all got sick including a horrible gastro bug which really knocked Mitchell around!!!!! So then I missed some of the extra sessions I was meant to be doing!!  We also had a working bee at Kinder where we painted the cubbyhouse - that was fun!!

That day we also found out the news about the school closing/merging - was a very sad day!!!  I will do a separate post about that sometime soon - it deserves a post all of its own!

What else..... um entered thew I heart faces contests each week so that was good - a bit of fun amidst all the business!!

And then there was Mothers Day ...

Well I fell down by day 3!!! lol

BUT!!!!............  I did do 2 posts on Day 2 so had done 3 posts by the 3rd Nov and this is my 4th post on the 4th Nov - does that count??? lol

Onto the rest of the Easter holidays ...

The Monday after Easter Gary built some shelves for the bottom shed with a very willing helper....

YIKES!! lol

Notice Mitchell is still in his PJ's - he loves staying in his PJ's all day if he can so that he feels like he has had a really relaxing day! lol

 
Mitchell's idea of helping meant making propellors!! lol  Dont worry - he knew not to touch the drill or propellor whilst they were spinning!

 
Once Daddy needed the drill tho Mitchell was right onto the job!

He knows how to change the drill bit with the chuck and with the power turned off (at my insistence!)

Gary is very trusting!!  Dont know if I could have my hand that close to someone else controlling a drill!!! lol

 Jesse then stayed over during the holidays so he and Mitchell were able to have a LAN game of Settlers or was it Rise of Nations?? I'm not sure - Mitchell was on our computer and Jesse was on his school Laptop in the loungeroom and they were battling - was very funny coz they kept coming into see what each other were doing!!  They then decided to be an alliance with each other against other settlements. M loves it when Jesse stays over and I do too - I dont see hide nor hair of them unless they are hungry - they entertain themselves very well!

The next morning Mitchell had a birthday party at Dark Zone so dropped him off there and took Jesse home getting Calamine Lotion and something for the bath for Jesse's brother and sister who had both come out with Chicken Pox - Jesse had it when he was younger and sao did M so we didnt have to worry about us thank goodness!

The next day we went to Swimming Emma's for the day and I left Mitchell there while I went to Eleanor Roberts funeral, which is the longest funeral I have ever been to - she had so many friends and wore so many "hats" - It was amazing!!  Even saw Margaret's photo a couple of times in the photos shown throughout the funeral (Gary's Mum)

The last few days of the holidays were relaxing - we didnt do much which is how I like it!!  Mitchell decided he needed to learn juggling for the upcoming school production (Circus production)

Mitchell got a new Bionicles Game so we played that a few times - it's quite cool once we worked it out!

So that was the end of the school holidays
